Old Function Overview
Information
On this page, you can find a list of the functions of the old WordCreator. You can still download this old version on the download page, but we recommend using the newest version of the program.
Here you can find a list of functions of the WordCreator.
Here you can see a list of all functions available in the WordCreator and its tools. The functions are sorted by their appearance in the application.
In the first section, you are introduced in all functions of the main program (the classical WordCreator). After that you can read about the functions of the TextCreator, the Character Counter, the Syllable Counter for Di- and Trigrams, the Syllable Counter for real Syllables and the Counter for Unicode Ressources.
WordCreator
- Created words: In this box all created words are listed after the creation according to the adjusted rules.
- Create: Click on "Create" to create words according to the adjusted rules.
- Length of Words: This is the length, the words should have. The length refers to the number of syllables. If the syllable list contains syllables with more than one letter, the "Length of Words" is not an indication of the number of letters of a word. For a random length, go to "Settings > Random Length".
- Number of Words: Here you can specify how many words should be created at once with one click on "Create". Select a value from the box or tap yourself any value.
- Used Syllables: In this box, there are all syllables used for creation with their probabilities. The entry in this box is always a number and the syllable seperated with a space. The number gives the probability of this syllable to be used for creation. The numbers must not have a particular value in the sum and the length of the number also plays no role. An example would be a syllable list of "50 E", "50 FI" and "100 3". In 50%, a "3" is used, in 25% an E and in 25% "EI". In the menu "Sample Lists", you can find some syllable lists of some languages.

- Settings > Random Length: Enables or disables a random number of used syllables / a fixed number of syllables. The range of the random length can be adjusted under "Settings > Modify Settings".
- Settings > Only Readable Words: Enables or disables readable words, which means, for example, a Z is not allowed between a W and V. The rules for readability can be defined under "Settings > Modify Settings". In the current version, the Word Creator supports the readability of Latin, Cyrillic, Greek and Georgic characters.
- Settings > Writing: With these settings, you can adjust the writing (lowercase and uppercase) of the output independent from the used syllable list.
- Settings > Writing > Keep: The output is not adjusted, the writing from the syllable list is used.
- Settings > Writing > All Uppercase: Independent from the syllables in the syllable list, all characters of the output are written uppercase (ABCDE).
- Settings > Writing > All Lowercase: Independet from the used syllable list, all letters in the output are written lowercase (abcde).
- Settings > Writing > Beginning Uppercase: Writes all of the created words with a capital letter at the beginning, the other characters are written lowercase. This works independent from the used syllable list (Abcde).
- Settings > Writing > Mixed Case: Every character of the output is randomly set to uppercase or lowercase independent from the used syllable list (aBcDE).
- Settings > Modify Settings: Opens the window "Settings" in which some of the settings can be adjusted.
- Settings > Modify Settings > Write Side by Side: Here you are able to define whether the words should be writen side by side or behind each other. If you want the words side by side, you can set a character which should be between the words. Standard is a space, but it can be changed here.
- Settings > Modify Settings > Random Length: Here you can specify whether the created words should have a random number of syllables or not. If you would like to have a random length, the beginning of the range can be adjusted in this window ("Start of Random Range") and the end of the range is the number given in the main window ("Length of Words"). For example, if you set "Length of Words: 7" in the main window and "Start of Random Range: 4" in the settings window, word with a length of 4, 5, 6 oder 7 syllables will be created.
- Settings > Modify Settings > Sign for Line Jump: This character (Default: %) will be replaced with a line jump if it appears in the output.
- Settings > Modify Settings > Only Readable Words: Here you can specify whether the created words should be readable or not. Either you take the default rules ("Rules: Standard") or you can create custom rules ("Rules: User Defined"), where you can define exactly which syllable or letter may be followed by which one. Therefore, "A>B" means, that a B is allowed to follow an A.
- Settings > Saving Options: Here you can set, in which format the word lists, syllable lists and so on should be saved. There are the codings ANSI, UTF-7, UTF-8, UTF-16 and UTF-32 for your disposial. If you want, you can also adjust, that the lists should be stored as ANSI, if they do not contain any Unicode character. An introduction to all of the saving formats and other information, you can get on the page File Formats.
- Settings > Font for all Boxes: In this function you can choose a font which will be used in all boxes of the program, for example for the syllable list and the word list of the WordCreator, the input and output list in the Syllable Counter or the Unicode Counter and so on. You can select another font, because not all characters can be displayed with all fonts. For instance, if you are using special Unicode characters, the corresponding glyph for the character must be included into the font, to display the character correctly. More information about this, you can read in the section Unicode fonts on this page.
- Settings > Word List > Font: Changes the font of the word list ("Created Words").
- Settings > Word List > Color: Changes the color of the word list ("Created Words").
- Settings > Language > German: Amends the language of the program according to German.

Text Creator
In the main window of the text generator, you can see four lists, which reflects the position of the syllables in the created word or sentence. Consequently, the syllables from the list "Left Syllables" are used for the beginning of the sentence or word, the syllables from the list "right syllables" for the end and the syllables from the list "Middle Syllables" for central places in the word or sentence. The syllables from the list "General Syllables" are used for all places.
- Create: Creates a sentence or a word from the four columns. The created words will appear in the main window.
- Copy: This feature is available at all syllable lists. Simply select some syllables of one of the lists and click on "Copy" behind another list to copy the selected syllables to this list.
- Move: This feature is available at all syllable lists. Simply select some syllables of one of the lists and click on "Move" behind another list to move the selected syllables to this list. So, this syllables are deleted from the original list.
- Frequency of these Syllables: Sets the frequency of the respective syllable lists. For example, if you set "Left: 1", "Middle: 2" and "Right: 0", words will be created with one syllable from the first list, after that two syllables from the list in the middle and no syllables from the right list at the end.
- Program > Create: Generates a sentence or a word from the four columns. The created syllables will appear in the main window.
- Program > Always On Top: Choose this option to bring the window to the front, so that it is over the main window.
- Program > Close Window: Closes the window.
- Save > General Syllables: Stores the list of common syllables.
- Save > Left Syllables: Stores the list of left syllables.
- Save > Middle Syllables: Stores the list of centered syllables.
- Save > Rights Syllables: Stores the list of right syllables.
- Save > Save all Lists: Saves all syllable lists to a single file. The lists are seperated by %1, %2, %3 and %4 from each other and can also be loaded back into the application.
- Load > General Syllables: Loads the general syllables from a file.
- Load > Left Syllables: Loads the left syllables from a file.
- Load > Middle Syllables: Loads the middle syllables from a file.
- Load > Right Syllables: Loads the right syllables from a file.
- Load > Load all Lists > Add to List: Loads all four lists from a single file. The lists must be seperated with %1 to %4 in this file and the lists are added to the current lists.
- Load > Load all Lists > As a new List: Loads all four lists from a single file. The lists must be seperated with %1 to %4 in this file. The old lists are deleted and replaced by the new ones.
- Load > List from Main Window > As General List: Loads the syllables from the main window (Word Creator) as general syllable list.
- Load > List from Main Window > As Left List: Loads the syllables from the main window (Word Creator) as left syllable list.

Character Counter
The window of the character counter is divided into three columns: The left column (input text) is for the source text to be count, in the right column all of the settings can be made and in the middle column, the result is presented. The character counter can be used only to count ANSI characters from texts, for Unicode characters, you have to use the Unicode Counter.
- Count: A click on "Count" produces the results on the basis of the input text (left column) and the settings (right column). Especially when the "Live Update" is disabled, this function is used to count the characters manually.
- Input Text: In this box, the text to be counted can be copied or loaded. To load the text from a file, click on "Load" under the box and select a text file from your computer. "Delete" under the box deletes the current text from the box.
- Results: In this box, the result due to the current settings and the input text is written. Under the box, you can see the number of the counted characters (this number do not have to correspond to the number of characters in the source text - if you do not count all characters). In the result box, there are four functions under the box: "Save" opends a dialog to save the result to a text file, "Copy to Clipboard" copies the result to the clipboard, to use them in other applications, "Add to Syllable List" adds the result to the syllable list of the word creator in the main window and "As Syllable List" replaces the current syllable list in the word creator with the result.
- Output format: Specifies the output format of the result. The box contains some examples of often-used formats that can be accessed directly. Additionally, you can use a custom format. Click on "Help: Customized Output" to learn more about it. The appropriate commands, which can be found there, can be written directly to the box "Output Format". For example the format "The character %char% appears %abs% times in the Text. This is equivalent to %pro% percent." produces the output strings "The character A appears 18 times in the text. This is equivalent to 19%." and so on.
- Output Format > Output as HTML table: Enables or disables the output as an HTML table.
- Output Format > Help: Customized Output: Displays a window in which all of the custom output encodings are presented. These can be written in the box "Output format" to create a result list in the appropriate format.
- Output Format > Live Update: Enables or disables the feature that immediately after the change of settings the outcome will be updated. If you have a slow computer, you should disable the live update and use the button "Count" instead to draw out the results.
- Characters to Count > All: All of the characters of the ASCII format, including symbols, punctuation marks, letters, numbers, control characters, spaces, and so on go into the count.
- Characters to Count > Letters: All letters (A, a), including accents (Á) and ligatures (Ä) are counted. This is the default setting.
- Characters to Count > Letters without Accents: Only the normal letters (A, A) are counted. Accents (Ä) and something like that will be ignored.
- Characters to Count > Groups: With this setting, it can be determined exavtly, which characters should be counted and which not. Possible groups include uppercase letters (A, B), lowercase letters (a, b), ligatures (Ä, ß), accents without ligatures (Á), spaces, numbers, special characters (€), punctuation (?, !) and control characters (ASCII Code 0-31). What characters exactly belong to which group can be seen at "Characters to Count > Customized > Show/Hide Table of Characters".
- Characters to Count > Customized: This setting provides the greatest freedom possible. Here you can define every character to be counted or not individually. Click on "Show/Hide Table of Characters" and select the characters you want to count. In the buttom left corner, the same groups as in the "Groups" feature can be selected. Thus, here you can understand which characters are belonging to which group. Sorting: The result can be shown in different sorting. Either by the letter (the character) or the number of percentage of each character. Both sorts can be sorted either ascending or descending.
- Summarize > Accents to Letters: Enable this setting if accents (À) should be counted like normal letters (A). In this case each À is counted as it was the letter A and so on.
- Summarize > Ligatures to Alternative: If there is an alternative for ligatures (for example AE for Ä) and this option is activated, each ligature in the source text is treated as it was the corresponding alternative. Instead of Ä, the letters A and E are counted.
- Summarize > Lower to Upper Case: If you are interested in the number of letters, often it is not nescessary to know how many lowercase and how many uppercase letters are in the text. If this option is enabled, all lowercase letters (a) are counted as they was uppercase letters (A). If this option is disabled, A and a are treated as different letters.
- Summarize > Delete Zero-Frequencies: If this option is enabled, all characters which do not occur in the source text but are selected ("Characters to Count"), will be deleted from the result. If this option is disabled, also characters which do not appear in the text will be written to the result (for example: A: 0x 0%).
- Summarize > Minimum Frequency: The minimum frequency determines the minimum percetange value, a character must have to come to the result. The number 1000 corresponds to 100%, 0100 would be 10% and 0010 is equivalent to 1%. If the option "Calculate Percentages once again" is activated, the first time calculated percentages are not used for the list. Instead of this, new percentages are calculated on the basis of all of the characters that remain after cutting with the minimum frequency. If this option is disabled, the percentage values from the original text are used.
Syllable Counter for Di- and Trigrams
The window of the syllable counter is divided into three columns: The left column (input text) is for the source text to be count, in the right column all of the settings can be made and in the middle column, the result is presented. The syllable counter can only be used to count ANSI di- and trigraphs (two and three party syllables) from texts. For Unicode characters, you have to use the Unicode Counter; for counting real syllables, you have to use the Syllable Counter for real Syllables.
- Count: A click on "Count" produces the results on the basis of the input text (left column) and the settings (right column). Especially when the "Live Update" is disabled, this function is used to count the syllables manually.
For example the format "The syllable %char% appears %abs% times in the Text. This is equivalent to %pro% percent." produces the output strings "The syllable AB appears 18 times in the text.
- Output Format > Length of Syllables: Specifies the length of the counted syllables. This length can either be specified to "2" or "3". If you choose "2", syllables like AB will be counted. If you choose "3", three-party syllables like ABC will be counted.
- Characters to Count > All: All characters are counted. See "Characters to Count > Customized > Show/Hide Table of Characters" for an overview. This option contains ordinary letters, ligatures, accents and numbers.
- Characters to Count > Letters: All letters (A, a), including accents (Á) and ligatures (Ä) are counted. This is the default setting.
- Characters to Count > Letters without Accents: Only the normal letters (A, A) are counted. Accents (Ä) and something like that will be ignored.
- Characters to Count > Groups: With this setting, it can be determined exactly, which characters should be counted and which not. Possible groups are letters (A), ligatures (Ä), accents (Ä) and numbers.
- Sorting: The result can be shown in different sorting. Either by the syllable or the number of percentage of each syllable. Both sorts can be sorted either ascending or descending.
- Summarize > Accents to Letters: Enable this setting if accents (À) should be counted like ordinary letters (A).
- Summarize > Delete Zero-Frequencies: If this option is enabled, all syllables which do not occur in the source text but are selected ("Characters to Count"), will be deleted from the result. If this option is disabled, also syllables which do not appear in the text will be written to the result (for example: XZ: 0x 0%).
- Summarize > Minimum Frequency: The minimum frequency determines the minimum percetange value, a syllable must have to come to the result. The number 1000 corresponds to 100%, 0100 would be 10% and 0010 is equivalent to 1%. If the option "Calculate Percentages once again" is activated, the first time calculated percentages are not used for the list. Instead of this, new percentages are calculated on the basis of all of the syllables that remain after cutting with the minimum frequency. If this option is disabled, the percentage values from the original text are used.
Syllable Counter for real Syllables
Also in the Syllable Counter for real Syllables, the window is divided into three colums: The left column for the source text, the right column, where all settings can be made, and the middle column where the results are presented. The Syllable Counter for real Syllables can be used to extract and count usual syllables like se|pa|ra|tor.
- Count: Click this button to count all the syllables from the input text in the left column. The result based on the settings of the right column is presented in the middle column of the window.
- Show Syllables: With this function, the original text is displayed in the result box with all of its syllables. The syllables are separated with the character defined in the box "Character to devide Syllables". The predefined character is the character "|".
- Input-Text: This box displays the text, which is the basis of the census. In this box, you can copy the text from which the syllables should be counted. If you want to load a text from your hard drive, use the function "Load". If you want to clear the box, you can use the button "Delete". Of course, the input text may contain any Unicode characters.
- Result: In this box, the result is displayed after you have clicked on "Show Syllables" or "Count". The result is based on the settings specified in the right column. Under the result box you can find some other features. With the function "Save" you can save the result as a file on your hard drive, with "Clipboard" you can copy the result to the clipboard. It is also possible to use the result in the Word Creator directly. For this you can use the functions "As Syllable list" to replace the current syllable list with the result or "Add to Syllable list" to add the result to the current list, so that you can use both lists.
- Output Format: In this box, you can choose how the table should look like. Available are some examples of frequently used formattings that can be selected directly, but you can also enter your custom format in this box. When doing this, you can use normal text (including Unicode) and some placeholders. A list of the placeholders is shown when you click on "Customized" in the box. For example, if you enter "%char%", this placeholder is replaced by the syllable, if you enter "%abs%", this placeholder will be replaced by the corresponding absolute frequency.
- Output Format > Output as HTML table: Select this option to create an HTML table as output. Then, you can see the HTML code in the result box. It can be useful first to display your table without HTML, so that you can better see the result.
- Output Format > Help: Customized Output: This option displays a window, in which you can see a list of all placeholders that can be used in the output format box. You can simply write the placeholder in the box.
- Output Format > Live Update: Enables or disables the automatic update of the result after changing settings. If you are counting a large text or if you have a slow computer, it makes sense to disable this function. Otherwise, this function is very useful because you can immediately see how the changing of your settings affect to your result.
- Output Format > Character to devide Syllables: In this box, you can enter a character which is used as separator when using the function "Show Syllables". The default is a vertical line, but you can also use any other character (including Unicode) to make the syllables visible.
- Characters to Count: Here you can specify exactly which characters are to be incorporated into the result. There are some predefined groups of characters and you can define two user defined groups of characters. The predefined groups of characters are numbers, Latin letters, Cyrillic letters, Georgic letters and Greek letters. Depending on whether you want to count these letters or characters or not, you can enable or disable the option. When defining own groups, the first possibility is to define a group of characters that will not be counted (box "No Syllables with these Characters"). You can just write some characters in this box and syllables that contain these characters will not be counted. The other possibility is to define some characters in the box "Only Syllables with these Characters". Then only syllables will be counted that contain the defined characters. For example you can type in the characters of a particular language or a special character set. Then only the appropriate characters of these sets will be counted.
- Sorting: You can choose for yourself whether the result should be sorted by the characters or by the number of syllables counted, in ascending or descending order. This options can be selected here.
- Options > Minimum Frequency: The minimum frequency is the value in percent that a syllable must have at least, to be included in the list. With this function you can exclude, for example, that syllables from the result, that occur only once in the text. With the option "Calculate Percentages once again", you can determine whether the total number of syllables in the text (including the excluded syllables) or the number of selected syllables (exclduing the excluded syllables) is used to calculate the percentages.
Counter for Unicode Ressources
With the Unicode Counter it is possible to count characters or two or three party syllables (bigrams or trigrams) from any Unicode text ressource (of course it also works with pure ANSI ressources). Again, the window is divided into three columns: In the left one, the text is entered, that should be counted. In the right column you can adjust the settings and in the middle one, the result is presented.
- Count: When you have selected your input text and have made all of your settings, you can click on this button to display the result of the counting in the middle column.
- Input-Text: In this box is the text which will be counted. It is possible to write the text directly into the box, it can be copied from the clipboard, or selected with "Load" on your disk. With "Delete" you can clear the current text to enter a new one.
- Result: In this box the results will be presented after you have clicked on "Count". Under this box there are the possibilities to save the result as a file, to copy the result to the clipboard, to add the result to the current syllable list in the Word Creator (the current list is not cleared) or to use this result as syllable list (the current list is cleared before). The format of the storage you can define in the Word Creator in "Settings > Saving Options". The different formats are explained in the page file formats.
- Output Format: In this box you can choose in what form the results table should be presented. Available are some commonly used formattings, you can select in the box. In addition, any other custom formt is possible. Just click in the box on "Customized" and a new window opens with a list of placeholders you can use. Then you can enter these placeholders and any other text in the box to define your own output format.
- Output Format > Output as HTML table: With this option, you can write your result directly to an HTML table. The HTML code will be displayed directly in the results column and can be copied to any HTML page.
- Output Format > Help: Customized Output: This option displays a list of all placeholders that can be used in the box "Output Format".
- Output Format > Live Update: Enables or disables the automatic updating of the result table after you have changed settings. The advantage of this feature is that you can directly see how your table looks like. If your computer is too slow or if you edit a very large text, you should turn off the automatic update.
- Output Format > Length of Syllables: In this box you can set how long the counted syllables should be. You can select 1 for characters, 2 for digrams (two party syllables) and 3 for trigrams (three party syllables).
- Characters to Count: Here you can specify which characters are to be counted and which not. First, it is possible to select or deselect some common groups of characters like numbers or letters of a special character set. Moreover, it is possible to define own groups of characters. One group of characters can be defined that should not be counted and one group can be defined that contain characters that should only be counted. So you can define exactly the characters that should be counted.
- Sorting: This option allows you to enter the order with which the table will be set up. It is possible to sort by alphabetical letters and by the frequency of them. Both options can be carried out either descending or ascending.
- Options > Minimum Frequency: In this box you can set a minimum frequency in percentage, a character or syllable must have at least to be included in the table. If the option "Calculate Percentages once again" is activated, the percentages are calculated with the exclusion of the omitted characters. If you disable this option, the sum of the percentages may not equal to 100% as the number of excluded characters have been included in the calculation of the percentages.
- Options > Lower to Upper Case: With this option, you can summarize the lowercase and uppercase letters. For example, if you activate this function a and A are counted as A. If you disable this function, a and A are counted separately.
